Touchgrind, a classic iPhone application that has been featured on the App store and is one of the top grossing apps of all time, features tech-deck style fingerboarding. The game runs on a simple premise: players must flick their fingers in a specific style in order to execute different tricks with the board, scoring points which are later used to unlock new boards. The game features several gametypes including a free-skate mode where players aren't given a time limit, and a competition mode in which players have 100 seconds to score the best that they can.
Overall, Touchgrind is a good game. The controls do take some getting used to as the average player will have the tendency to do one trick over and over because they feel comfortable with the movements. The board unlocking mechanism is a great addition to the game, enabling players to unlock statistically better boards with successful runs. It is here, however, that Touchgrind fails. There is no progression, the game is simply mashing tricks together with the hope that you will hit some kind of streak and unlock the next board. Points don't accumulate either, so a run that falls painfully short of a new board has absolutely no bearing on whether or not that piece of content is unlocked. In addition, turning does feel a bit awkward, however this small hiccup is not a game breaking feature and can easily be adjusted to. Overall, Touchgrind is a decent game. It won't ever be as addicting as some other App Store titles, however it is solid enough to merit a good rating.
